The camera is magic

I was a kid who was naturally curious, and one day while advancing in my career as an 8 year old magician, I stumbled on something that would change my life forever. My dad's amazing VHS camcorder. I realized very quickly that if I stood in front of the camera, and had my sister stop recording and move out of the way and hit record again I could disappear. Mind blown.

Every day was a movie

Once I had the camera, everything was a movie. School projects, music videos, you name it. I spent days making a Lego stop-motion remake of The Matrix and walked away with exactly 12 seconds of usable footage. In 8th grade I chose Lord of the Rings for a book report so I could film it in my backyard, and for the record, my Gandalf would give Ian McKellen a run for his money. I once set off an M-80 right by my face during trying to get a shot worthy of Spielberg. I made an hour long documentary about my best friend Tim that he definitely didn't ask for. The Lonely Island were my heroes. If it existed, I filmed it.

A Hug from Taylor Swift.png

Dear Taylor Swift,

My senior year at Auburn I had an idea, and I knew it would work from the second I thought of it. My roommate and I would film a web series trying to get the attention of one person. It was 2010 and social media still felt like the Wild West, still pure. We launched it on YouTube and Facebook and it grew fast. Radio stations, TV stations, press we'd never heard of calling our apartment. Within a month the whole thing was going viral worldwide, all because of one simple idea:

A Hug from Taylor Swift

The hug heard 'round the world

Everything I had done led to this moment. Not just the web series, not just the videos, all of it. Every time I picked up a camera and tried to make someone feel something, every project that started with a dumb idea and somehow became real. I knew I could create something that people wanted to watch and be a part of. I didn't realize it at the time, but everything I had done, and everything I was going to do, revolved around one thing.
